Prerequisites

The prerequisites and requirements for installing and running Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner are described below.

System requirements

Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner is dependent on a Snow Inventory Agent for Windows, Linux, or Unix. It requires to be executed in a Java Runtime Environment. For information on required versions, see System Requirements.

Permissions and environment variables

If the operating system user running the Snow Inventory Agent is root, all users who run database instances must be members of the operating system DBA group. This is required to get folder permissions for the temp folder.

If the operating system user running the Snow Inventory Agent is not root, the user:

For Linux and Unix environments, the operating system user running Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner must have write permissions on the following directories:

  • on Linux: /var/run/SnowSoftware/Inventory/Agent/script-output

  • on Unix: /var/tmp/SnowSoftware/Inventory/Agent/script-output

Dependencies on the Snow Inventory Agent

Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner has the following dependencies on the Snow Inventory Agent that are essential for its operation and configuration:

  • Activation and configuration management: The scanner is activated and fully configured through the agent configuration file. For more information, see Configure the scanner.

  • Execution and scheduling: The scanner is launched by the agent and follows the same scan schedule as defined for the agent. For more information on agent scan scheduling, see the user guide for the respective agent.
