Manage applications
Learn how to manage your applications in SAM on Snow Atlas.
View applications

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.

Find the application that you want to view the details for. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name to view the details of that specific application. For field descriptions, see Applications: Reference.
Search for applications
You can search for applications by using filtering and sorting.

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.
-
In the table header, select the funnel of the column that you want to use for your search, and then do the following:
-
To filter by text or number:
-
Select operator.
-
In Filter, enter the search criterion.

To filter by predefined values:
- Select the checkboxes for the values that you want to include in your search. By default, all checkboxes are selected.

To filter by dates:
-
In the calendar view, select a time period by selecting From and To dates.

Select Apply.
-

Optional: To change the columns of the table, do the following:
-
To add more columns, select Columns, and then use the checkboxes to select the columns that you want to add.

To remove single columns, select Columns, and then use the checkboxes to deselect the columns that you want to remove.

To remove all columns you have added and revert to the default set of columns, point to the right of any column name, select the three dots that appear, and then select Reset columns.

Optional: In the table header, select any column name to sort by that column. Select the column name once again to reverse the sort order.

Optional: To adjust the width of one or all columns, point to the right of the column name, select the three dots that appear, and then select to Autosize this column or to Autosize all columns.

To remove all filters, select Reset all filters.
Edit applications

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.

Find the application that you want to edit. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name.
-
Select Edit application.
-
Add or edit the applicable information. For field descriptions, see Edit applications: Reference.

Select Save.
Manage metrics
You can add, edit, and delete alternative metrics and also change the default metric for an application. For more information, see Metrics and Default metric. You can also use a custom metric as a customized way to perform license compliance calculations. For more information, see Custom metrics.
You cannot change the default metric for a Windows Server application.

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.

Find the application for which you want to manage the metrics. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name.

Select Edit application.

Optional: To add a metric, do the following:
-
On the License settings tab, under Metrics, select Add metrics and then select an additional metric from the list.

In Add metric, add the required information for the metric. For field descriptions, see Edit applications: Reference.

Select Add.
-

Optional: To edit a metric, do the following:
-
On the License settings tab, under Metrics, select Edit on the menu to the right of the metric.

Edit the required information for the metric. For field descriptions, see Edit applications: Reference.

Select Apply.

Optional: To delete a metric, do the following:
- On the License settings tab, under Metrics, select Delete on the menu to the right of the metric.
noteA metric cannot be deleted in the following cases:
-
When the metric is the default metric.
-
When the metric is connected to a license purchase registration. The license must then be deleted before the metric can be deleted.

Optional: On the License settings tab, under Metrics, find the metric that you want to use as a default metric for this application, and then select Make default on the menu to the right of the metric.

Select Save.
Manage downgrade paths
You can manually add versions within the application family that this application is valid to downgrade to. The application versions can be listed in relative order to define the downgrade path. For more information, see Upgrade and downgrade rights.

On the SAM Core menu, selects Applications.

Find the application for which you want to manage downgrade paths. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name.
-
Select Edit application.
-
On the License settings tab, under Downgrade rights path, do one of the following:
-
Select the number of previous versions that the application is allowed to be downgraded to.
-
Define the downgrade path and list the application versions in relative order, by doing the following:
-
To add applications to the downgrade path, in Available applications, select the applications that this application is valid to downgrade to, and then select Move right.
-
To remove applications from the downgrade path, in The application is valid for downgrade to, select the applications that this application is not valid to downgrade to, and then select Move left.

To change the relative order of the applications that this application is valid to downgrade to, in The application is valid for downgrade to, select the application that you want to move and then select Move up or Move down.

Select Save.
Manage application bundle licensing
You can remove application bundle licensing from the computer where the bundle component is installed. You can also restore application bundle licensing on the computer where the unbundled component is installed. For more information, see Application bundle.

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.
-
Find the application for which you want to manage bundle licensing. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name.
-
Select Edit application.
-
To remove bundle licensing, do the following:
-
On the Bundle options tab, find the computer for which the bundle licensing is to be removed and select the toggle to deactivate the bundle licensing.
-
Select Save.
The Computers tab on the details page of the application shows the remark Individual licensing of included programs.

To restore bundle licensing, do the following:
-
On the Bundle options tab, find the computer for which the bundle licensing is to be restored and select the toggle to activate the bundle licensing.

Select Save.
-

Recalculate compliance, by doing the following:
-
On the SAM Core menu, select Home, and then select Administration.
-
On the Compliance menu in the upper-right corner of the page, select Recalculate compliance.

Navigate back to the application for which you have managed bundle licensing.
The data shown on the details page of the application reflects the changes you have made.
Manage custom information
You can store custom information or data that is not defined in the user interface by default in custom fields. For more information, see Custom fields.

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.
-
Find the application that you want to manage custom information for. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name.
-
On the Custom information tab, manage the custom fields. For more information, see Manage custom fields.
View application families
You can view detailed information on specific application families. For more information, see Application family.

On the SAM Core menu, select Applications.
-
Find the application that belongs to the application family you want to view the details for. For more information on how to search, see Search for applications.

Select the application name.
-
On the Overview tab, under General overview, select the link to the application family to view the details of that specific application family. For field descriptions, see Application families: Reference.
View application manufacturers
You can view information on all identified application manufacturers in the system and also view detailed information on specific manufacturers.

On the SAM Core menu, under Applications, select Manufacturers.
-
On the overview of the manufacturers and in the table, find the manufacturer you want to view the details for.

Select the name of the manufacturer to view the details of that specific manufacturer.
