Manage computers

Learn how to manage your computers in SAM on Snow Atlas.

The Computers page shows a list with selected information about all inventoried computers in your IT environment. You can search the list by filtering, sorting, and adding more columns to the list.

Search for computers

  1. On the SAM Core menu, select Computers.

  2. In the table header, select the funnel of the column you want to use for your search, and then do the following:

    • To search by using text:

      1. Select operator: Contains or Not contains.

      2. In Filter, enter the search criterion.

    • To search by using dates:

      1. In the calendar view, select a time period by selecting From and To dates.

      2. Select Apply.

    • To search by using predefined values:

      1. Select the checkboxes for the values you want to include in your search.
  3. To add more columns for your search, select Columns, and then use the checkboxes to select the columns you want to add.

  4. Optional: In the table header, select any column name to sort by that column. Select the column name once again to reverse the sort order.

  5. To view the details for a computer, select the computer. For field descriptions, see Computers: Reference.

Edit computers

  1. On the Computers page, find and select the computer you want to edit. For more information on how to search, see Search for computers.

  2. Select Edit computer.

  3. Add or edit the applicable information.

  4. Select Save.

Archive computers

caution

An archived computer cannot be restored.

When a computer is archived, a snapshot of the computer details is saved before the computer is removed from the system. Since an archived computer is removed, all licenses currently attached to it are released. The saved details can be accessed using the report Archived computers.

You can archive a single computer or several computers at the same time.

  1. On the Computers page, find and select the computers you want to archive. For more information on how to search, see Search for computers.

  2. On the Actions menu, select Archive.

  3. Select Archive to confirm.

note

An archived computer does not consume, that is, does not count towards the unit limit of the SAM on Snow Atlas license.

tip

You can also archive a single computer by first selecting Edit computer on the details page of the computer, and then selecting Archive.

Delete computers

caution

When a computer is deleted, it is removed from the system and cannot be restored. All associated details are deleted, and all attachments are released.

You can delete a single computer or several computers at the same time.

  1. On the Computers page, find and select the computers you want to delete. For more information on how to search, see Search for computers.

  2. On the Actions menu, select Delete.

  3. Select Delete to confirm.

tip

You can also delete a single computer by first selecting Edit computer on the details page of the computer, and then selecting Delete.

Manage custom information

You can store custom information or data that is not defined in the user interface by default in custom fields. For more information, see Custom fields.

  1. On the Computers page, find and select the computer you want to manage custom information for. For more information on how to search, see Search for computers.

  2. On the Custom information tab, manage the custom information. For more information, see Manage custom information.
