Manage assignment rules
Here are the different ways you can manage assignment rules in SAM on Snow Atlas.
Create assignment rules
-
On the SAM menu, select Settings.
-
On the SAM Core settings menu, select Organization assignment.
-
Select Create rule.
-
Enter a Rule name for the assignment rule.
-
Select Add criteria.
-
Select Attribute and Function, and then enter a Value.
note-
If you select the attribute Registry key, you must also enter Registry key name, Value name, and Value data.
-
If you select the attribute Custom field, you must also select a Custom field. You can only create assignment rules based on custom fields if you already have created a custom field. For more information, see Custom fields.
-
-
Repeat Step 5 and Step 6 for the criteria you want to add.
-
Select the organization node for this rule.
-
Select Save.
-
When you have created the assignment rules, you must enable the rules you want use, and then apply them so that the computers are assigned to the nodes in the organization structure. For more information, see Apply assignment rules.
-
The rules are applied in the order they were created. That is, the rule with Order 1 is first applied, followed by the rule with Order 2, and so on.
Edit assignment rules
You can only edit one rule at a time.
-
On the Organization assignment page, select the rule that you want to edit.
-
On the Actions menu, select Edit.
-
Make changes to the Rule name, Criteria, or Organization structure.
-
Select Save.
When you have edited assignment rules, you must apply the rules so that the computers are assigned to the nodes in the organization structure. For more information, see Apply assignment rules.
Delete assignment rules
-
On the Organization assignment page, select the rules that you want to delete.
-
On the Actions menu, select Delete.
-
Select Delete to confirm that you want to delete the selected rules.
When a rule is deleted, the computers are assigned to the root organization node. The next time the rule set is processed, one of the following occurs:
-
If there is another assignment rule that matches the computers, the computers are assigned to that organization node.
-
If no assignment rule matches the computers, the computers remain assigned to the root organization node.
Enable assignment rules
To apply assignment rules so that computers are assigned to the organization structure, you must first enable at least one rule. Only enabled assignment rules will be processed when you apply the rules.
-
On the Organization assignment page, select the rules that you want to enable.
-
On the Actions menu, select Enable.
-
Select Enable to confirm that you want to enable the selected assignment rules.
Disable assignment rules
Disabled rules will not be used.
-
On the Organization assignment page, select the rules that you want to disable.
-
On the Actions menu, select Disable.
-
Select Disable to confirm that you want to disable the selected assignment rules.
Apply assignment rules
To apply assignment rules so that computers are assigned to the nodes in the organization structure, you must first enable at least one rule. Only enabled assignment rules will be used.
-
On the Organization assignment page, confirm that the rules that you want to apply are enabled and that the rules that you do not want to apply are disabled. If needed, enable or disable rules according to Enable assignment rules and Disable assignment rules.
-
Select Apply rules.
-
Select Apply to confirm that you want to apply the rules.
The assignment rules process is started. Note that it will take some time to process the rules and assign the computers to the organization structure.
-
The rules are applied automatically when the Data Update Job transfers new or updated data related to the computers.
-
If there are no rules, the computers will, by default, be assigned to the root organization node, which is the top-level in the organization structure.
